Product Information

The Atlas® 229 wheel clamp swing arm tire changer is the perfect tire changer for the small automotive garage or ATV/MC dealer. The Atlas® 229 has the same clamping and tire changing capabilities as the Atlas® TC 221 wheel clamp tire changer, but has the added bead blaster system to help inflate stiff sidewall tires or other "hard to inflate" tires. If you are going to be changing larger pickup truck (1 ton), large SUV wheels, or agricultural tires (either now or in the future), you may want to consider the Atlas® TC 289 wheel clamp tire changer. Ask your tire changer professional at Greg Smith Equipment for advice on which tire changer will do the best job for you at the price you want to pay!

2nd Best Tool In The Garage

by -

If you don't have one of these you need one. And do consider this model if you're looking at the TC221 for the bead blast option especially if you have a couple SUVs or other tall sidewall tires. We've had the machine 7 or 8 years now and it has been fantastic. With 3 race cars, several tow vehicles and trailers, and all the other cars in the fleet, it has been invaluable. Being able to change tires on a random Tuesday is awesome. Recently we developed a leak at the rotary union, determined it was one of the lines leading to the clamping cylinders but under the rotary table. The exploded diagrams available online were clear enough that we were comfortable tackling the job of removing the table. My garage mate has 20+ years repairing CNC mills and lathes and was pleasantly surprised at the construction. We had to craft a puller but were easily able to remove the table, trim the hose, and reinstall the hose.

Worth the money

I purchased this machine a couple years ago along with a WB11 balancer. The only optional equipment I got were the motorcycle adapters. I use this at home for my own use. I like being able to replace a sensor or fix a tire myself without having to take it to a garage and have someone else do it. I probably changed a few dozen tires so far on cars, suv, pickup, a 1 ton dump, lift machine, and a couple motorcycle tires. It handled them all without any trouble. The machine is well made with sturdy paint. It still looks good and cleans up easily by just blowing it off and wiping it down. The only visible wear is the rubber cover on the bead breaker got chewed up a little on one of the corners. This machine has done everything I asked of it and I have no complaints. It is pretty heavy so find a good spot for it cause it's not easy to move around.
